Holidays are supposed to be an escape… but for many of us, the phone comes too.
From checking messages to endless scrolling by the pool, it can sometimes feel like we take everyday life away with us. In the latest episode of The MarshyCast, TV personality and bestselling author Charlotte Crosby joined me to talk about a simple idea that could transform time away… bringing reading back to the holiday.
Charlotte spoke warmly about family holidays and how much they mean to her. One trip in particular stood out, a Christmas in Dubai, made even more memorable by making a conscious decision to leave the phones in the room and focus on spending proper time together.
It’s a reminder that while technology keeps us connected, it can also quietly steal attention from the moments right in front of us.
We also talked about the idea of setting designated phone-free times during a holiday. Maybe breakfast without screens, an hour by the pool with a book, or evenings spent talking rather than tapping.
And then there’s the excuse many people give for not reading on holiday… overpacking. Apparently there’s room for six pairs of shoes and three “just in case” outfits, but not a paperback.
Charlotte’s message is a good one: a holiday should be a break in more ways than one.
